The undersigned

SlideShowPro and WordPress

After I announced my business and portfolio site yesterday, I have received several requests for doing a little on how to make WordPress interact with SlideShowPro as it does on my portfolio site.

I have chosen not to, but instead make two small scripts that will do all the work for you. For both files, change the filename extension to php and upload it to the root directory of your WordPress install.

When editing your SlideShowPro, you will simply have to set it grab /post_gallery.php or /post_gallery.php instead of /images.xml

post_gallery.php

  • A post equals a SlideShowPro album.
  • The post title and post content works as album title and description in SlideShowPro.
  • JPG images uploaded to that specific post (through the inline uploader) equals an image in the album.
  • The image title and description set while uploading is used as title and caption for the image in SlideShowPro.

When using post_gallery.php to output an XML, you have the possibility to give the script a variable, that tells which category it should grab posts from. If that variable is not set, it will grab all posts from all categories.

The variable is set by adding ?cat=ID to the XML include in Flash. E.g. /post_gallery.php?cat=1.

site_gallery.php

  • A category equals a SlideShowPro album.
  • The category name and description works as album title and description in SlideShowPro.
  • JPG images uploaded to any post (through the inline uploader) equals an image in the album.
  • The image title and description set while uploading is used as title and caption for the image in SlideShowPro.
  • If clicking on an image in SlideShowPro, it will direct you to the post, where the image is attached

When using site_gallery.php to output an XML, you have the possibility to give the script a variable, that tells which categories you do not want to function as albums. If that variable is not set, it will show all categories as albums.

The variable is set by adding ?exclude=ID,ID,ID to the XML include in Flash. E.g. /site_gallery.php?exclude=1,2,3.

Not working?

  1. Are you sure you have set the correct path to the php file in your flash file?
  2. Are you sure you have uploaded the php file to the root of your WordPress install (same directory as wp-config.php)
  3. The script will currently only work with JPG images
  4. Do you have any images uploaded at all?

Hi There,

I’ve tested your solution but it doesn’t work properly :-(
It generates 2 extra thumbnails when I add one image to the post.
Am I missing something?

Thanks and it’s a great idea!

Do you have “dummies guide” for using these slideshowpro scripts? I’ve got the concept working with slideshowpro using Flash Quicktag, but it’s not elegant :-)

I looked at monoslideshow, but it looks like a real pain to use, and the support appears to be non-existent.

cheers, juice

Israel Meneses Says:

Hi,
It looks like a great plugin; I just can not get it to display the uploaded images to the post “album” how many images can there be in each album?
It shows the post tile and image when the page loads, but when I click on the image it all goes blank and I can not go back to previous screen where it shows all albums, I have to refresh the page.

Do you have “dummies guide” for using these slideshowpro scripts?

Thank you & have a great day

Keep up the good work

Joshua Isaac Says:

If anyone has been having the problem that Marcos has been, there is a quick simple solution.

Line 5 of post_gallery.php looks like this:
`function ssp_fetch_images($postid, $size) {`

To fix the problem change Line 5 of post_gallery to this:
`function ssp_fetch_images($postid) {`

This will remove the 2 undefined elements (ie, 1 and 2) of the Slideshow Pro movie.

andrew Says:

works great for me — until you go back and make an edit to the title or description of the image and resave….

I’m using WP 2.2.2 — using the “upload” function.

What do you suppose can be done about this?

24/08-2007 | 2:29

andrew Says:

when you edit the image title and description and resave — the image gets remove from slideshowpro and all you can do is delete the image and re-upload when its perfect — kinda sucks that you cant edit

has anyone else noticed that?

after i get this initially working — its great. BUT — if you edit the image title and description and resave the image in “browse” for WP 2.2 — the image gets removed from slideshowpro and all you can do is delete the image and re-upload when its perfect — kinda sucks that you cant edit the title or description after you publish it the first time.

has anyone else noticed that?

[…] At this point you should have a new Slideshow Pro SWF file on your server. If you did a Publish Preview before step six and no photos showed up, that’s fine. They won’t show up yet, Wordpress will handle that for us once we do a couple things. We’ll need to create a PHP file called galleryAssist.php. I modified a file from this gentleman so that SSP only is given the photos for a particular post. […]
