Im currently developing another plugin, besides the mint-plugin, GetAMint, called »Database Lists«.
Information
WordPress is a blogging platform, not a CMS - well, thats at least what some people say. Ive begun to use WordPress as a CMS for our customers and do some custom coding for it.
Case
Imagine, that you needed an address book on your website.
1) You load the WordPress dashboards, selects »Database Lists« from the menu, and you choose to create a new Database, »addressbook«.
2) You create 4 fields (or as many as you like), »Name«, »E-mail«, »Phonenumber« and »Picture«.
3) You choose to add information to your newly created fields, uploads images etc.
4) You create a new template file, chooses how the information should be shown, chooses where the »Sort by«-drop down box should be etc.
5) Your Address book is ready to launch.
Imagine
Imagine how easy things would be with such a plugin - how fast you could create product lists, memberlists, eventlists, galleries - almost everything - dynamically!
Imagine that you export all your contacts from your mail application as a comma seperated file, and imports the data to your newly created database.
Status
The current status, is that the plugin is able to create databases, fields and insert into the fields. There is no public download of the plugin yet, and there won’t be any at all, if there is no interest for it.
Please donate for developement here.

Hey mate, I am happy to get involved in the development of this. I think it would be very helpful as I find blogging systems awesome for what I need but for other websites they aren’t adequate. I have developed my own cms I can deploy quickly, but I would also like this option if it was possible. Let me know if you are still interested in continuing with this plugin.

Took me more than 5 hours of intensive googling to find your page. I think there are a lot more people interested in such a plugin. This would make wordpress an even more versatile cms-alternative. Keep it going. I would love to work on this with you.

Hello!
I installed Wordpress on my server, and set up a site. It’s a relly nice piece of software. However, I am missing a piece of functionality, and
couldn’t find a suitable answer for it. Mayou you know a plugin I could use?I need to automatically inserts ads in my posts. And not AdSense ads, but rather HTML snippets defined by me (affiliate links, etc). Let’s say I would insert a tag in my post:
– ad here –
and the plugin would automatically replace it with some HTML code, when the post is displayed on my site.I really don’t need any fancy configuration options etc, just the basic replace functionality.
Do you know a plugin that can handle this?

Gmo Says:

use adsensedeluxe plugin, although it was designed for adsense you can insert any type of affiliate code without problems (amazon, buy.com, thinkgeek etc.) with that plugin. search google “adsense deluxe plugin wordpress” and you’ll get it.

Is this plugin released yet? It’s exactly what I’m looking for for an upcoming project and I wouldn’t know how to code it myself. Would much prefer to use Wordpress rather than learn a new CMS…

What I want to do on my blog, is every few hours take the oldest post and move it to the
front of the queue, all automatically. Anyone know if there is a plugin that can do this or
a simple way to set up another plugin to do this (use my own feed perhaps)?
Thanks.

I need it too badly.I have to keep track of all the bloggers i met damn.
I have one suggestion if you can make it adabtable with the link system of wordpress. So it will be easier to transfer the name and link of the bloggers into the addrss book directly

Been customizing your great water3 theme for a blog I’m working on and stumbled on to this post. Any chance you’re still considering developing the plugin? It sounds great and very useful.
As another case idea of what it could do - I’ve had a vision of adding a few pages that provide something of a tracking list for company’s I watch for a business blog. Was thinking kind of: 1 column with a company’s name, another with a brief description, maybe a 3rd with a trend up or down indicator (graphic and/or text). Your plugin idea would make an idea like that so much easier to implement and manage. As it stands now, I was going to end up just doing a few unorganized list entries on custom pages (from data currently stored in excel spreadsheets) BUT Database entries through the dashboard, templates/css for the output to pages? - BRILLIANT!
Your idea - i think - could be very popular once users get a sense of the kinds of things it could help them do. Address books, link lists, thumbs up/thumbs down movie (or restaurant) review lists etc. Seems like it could add a whole ‘nother level to the power of Wordpress. I can imagine it being popular enough for theme developers to even start including database_page.php templates for custom outputs out of the box.
My coding skills are useless else I’d offer to help any way I could. I think you’ve got a great idea and would love to see it developed.
Hope you don’t give up and orphan it.

I thought I’d share my latest find with everyone… its a plugin called wp-Table by Alex Rabe (http://alexrabe.boelinger.com/?page_id=3) and I’m now using it at the moment for various list items on my site. The only limitation that it *is* a table format after all rather than a database - but you can import data (csv) as well as sort the table by ascending/descending order. I’m still looking forward to the development of this plug-in though! :)
23/02-2007 | 5:49
crazypaws Says:
mosey - thanks for posting the link to wp-table. while nowhere near as ideal as this plugin would be, it is a helpful step in the right direction. any chance you could post a link for your site - would love to see the output of the plugin in action.
if you search the wordpress support call it is frightening how many hits there are from people looking for help adding tables (or tabular data) to posts or pages. wp-table could help a lot of them, me included (sure beats hand coding a table each time or struggling to add table quicktags for tinymce - and the freedom to output the database to less tabular form would be amazing)…the database lists idea would take it over the top and truly rock.
how can we get more skilled people developers aware of this idea/project so that they might be able to help Undersigned get this churned out or help improve wp-table as a sideline to this?
23/02-2007 | 19:51
Mosey Says:
I found the wp-Table plugin an absolute god-send - I find editing tables in Wordpress a bit of a nightmare actually so this is a fantastic alternative. Whilst I would love to share the link with you for the particular site I’m working on at the moment, unfortunately the data is quite confidential (members only details and such) so hope you don’t mind. Once I use it on a more public site I’ll be sure to let you know. I believe Alex Rabe’s own site has some screenshots of the plugin in action. If it helps, I could probably take a few screenshots and upload some images of the backend?
In terms of wp-Table development, I think its still actively being developed; so it might be worth posting your thoughts on his forum as well. I’m not sure about Undersigned though… perhaps he/she will see these comments and it might inspire him/her? :)

I’ve been looking for a tool for some time that will help organize data across multiple fields. WP is great with categories, but what if you want to sort by categories? For example, you have a blog about recipes and there are 12 fields that the recipes key off of (e.g., whether it is breakfast, lunch, dinner; low-calorie, low-carb, easy prep-time/hard; etc.). Would this plug-in allow this kind of functionality? If so, I think it would be a HUGE addition to WP functionality and make it a powerful CMS. How do we encourage development?
25/02-2007 | 18:21
Mosey Says:
Geoff - wp-Table does allow sorting if that helps at all. The thing is I find I have to link each ‘post’ manually in the table if I want to it to link anywhere.

I’m very interested in this plugin as well. I’m designing a reunion site for my high school and would love a feature like this. I’m an Information Architect/Interaction Designer by trade, but not that good at PHP/MySQL. Did you want some help on the UI/Visual front and then you could do the rest on the back-end? Please contact me if you want some help.
THANKS!!

Hi there! Please continue with the developement of this awesome plugin! I could really use this for my site. The WP-Blogroll just doesn’t offer enough functionality as a contact manager - unfortuantely. And if I add another 50 or so categories (for, let’s say, countries, cities, etc) it would make my category listing a complete mess. That’s probably a limitation of WP, if you have more than 20-30 categories, it will make the category-chooser in the posting area very confusing. The separate Blog-roll categories would be perfect for my needs but the blog-roll only offers 3 public entry fields, which you can’t configure well i.e. no line breaks, just string like entries. Therefore, your plug-in would be greatly appreciated!! Please write me a mail once it is released! Thank you!!

Hey mate, this sounds like a brilliant idea for a plugin, and I hope you do get a chance to tackle it. I design restaurant websites, so an arbitrary database plugin would be awesome for allowing the client to edit items on their menus, and whatnot.
